It Has Been A Long Week!

This past week I have been on vacation from interning with Ocean’s Edge at CCFL. I did not actually go anywhere, I stayed at home. I spent time with my family, my girlfriend, and my friends. I got to meet new people and reconnect with old friends. James and I spent a lot of time recording. I spent time relaxing, exercising, and sleeping in. It was such a refreshing week.

HSC

Last Saturday I got to reconnect with the lovely Hammock Street Church crew! It was a bittersweet get together. We were celebrating our friendship with Frank Donnino and thanking him for the time he has invested in playing drums at HSC. He had to take leave because he has family to take care of and that is definitely more important! We love Frank! I also got to sit in HSC on Sunday and listen to worship for once instead of play it. It was very relaxing and refreshing!

Dirty Projectors - Culture Room

James, Daniel, and I got to go to the Dirty Projectors concert at the Culture Room Tuesday Night. First off, I managed to get a free vinyl with unreleased tracks off of their upcoming album. Since I do not have a vinyl player, I will be going to a friends house to listen to it soon! Anyways, a band called POP ETC opened up for Dirty Projectors and they were rad! 80′s synth sounds, twangy rhythm guitar, and an entertaining front man. I spoke to one of the keyboardist afterwards about how they used Ableton on pre-programming all of the vocal effects used in their show. I never though about pre-programming it, brilliant! Last time I did vocal effects we actually did it live which consisted of somebody actually turning the knobs up and then pulling them back.

Dirty Projectors surpassed my expectations. I have seen a few of their videos online and listened to their albums once or twice but nothing came close to the experience of seeing them live. They were on another level of greatness. Utterly gorgeous harmonies, beautiful guitar picking, and their own truly unique sound. The women in the band can sing so well and they sure can play too! I loved their odd time signatures and grooves, it felt so good. What a hyped up crowd too, packed house! I would see them again for sure!

CCP

The day I got back from vacation, I found out that I was leading worship at Calvary Chapel Plantation and that soundcheck was in an hour. I quickly met with Josh and Meghan and we started going over songs that we all knew. After roughly running though a few songs we left for soundcheck. When we got there, we worked out all of the kinks and made final decisions songs and transitions. I am not a huge fan of last minute things but I know that is important to be able to do them. It is something that I have improved on so much this past year, mainly due to experiences like this.

Setlist - Desert Song / God of the Redeemed / Everlasting God / How He Loves
